Gong Hey Fat Choy! It's the Year of the Goat!
Today we're celebrating the Chinese New Year - the 4712th Chinese year to be exact! This day is also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year.
Chinese New Year is widely celebrated in many countries around the world and it has various symbols and traditions. Flowers are used for decoration, writings for good luck are often seen on homes, tangerines and oranges are displayed as a sign of luck and wealth, red envelopes with money are given to children as presents and red lanterns are released on the last day of the festival which lasts for 15 days.
According to Chinese astrology, each year is associated with one of the 12 animal signs, occurring in a 12-year cycle. 2015 is a year of the Goat (“Wood Goat”).
